Group 1 (critics)
Step 1
Surf the Net and answer the following questions:
- What are the types of translation?
- What is a literary translation?
- Is the translation of literature different from other species?
Create a Microsoft Word document and type your answers there.
Step 2
Read the variants of translation of H. Heine poem. Compare and contrast them. In German 2 trees are of different gender: male and female. Which of the translations is closer to the original? How important is the gender for the understanding of the poem?
Step 3
Compare interlinear translation of Sonnet 90 created by Group 2 with its translation by Marshak. Make conclusions. Type them into your worksheet.
Group 2 (translators)
Step 1
Read Sonnet 90 by William Shakespeare and 2 variants of its translation (by S. Marshak and A. Finkel). Compare emotional state of these variants. Find out what similarities/differences they have. Fill in the table.
Step 2
Do an interlinear translation of the sonet. Use the dictionary. Give your translation to Groups 1 and 3.
Group 3 (poets)
Step 1
Surf the Net and find the definition of the word "rhyme".
Create a Microsoft Word document and type your answers there.
Step 2
Look through the information here and make a list of rhyme types. Use your Word document to type the information.
Step 3
Click here to complete the Quiz "Our Favorite Game". Decide what kind of rhyme is used in the poem. Your task becomes harder. Click here to complete it.
Step 4
Try to write your own poem using interlinear translation of Sonnet 90 done by Group 2. Mind rhyme rules.
