Follow the steps IN ORDER!


Research

1. Download the Online Safety Research Sheet from the Attachments section at the bottom of the screen.When the file is open, click Enable Editing at the top in the yellow bar. You may print (be sure to print on both sides) and fill in or save it to your flash drive and complete on the computer. Filename Guidelines:

  • Working as a group: LastNameLastNameResearch
  • Working individually: LastNameFIResearch
  • ***FI means your first initial of your first name***

2. Complete the Online Safety Research Sheet using the links in the Attachments section at the bottom of the page. This will provide you with important information on each topic. Your brochure will include general online safety tips AND detailed information on the topic you choose from your Research Sheet. We need a variety of informational brochures, so when you have chosen, check with Mr. Kurtz to make sure all topics are being covered. YOU MUST CHECK WITH YOUR MR. KURTZ BEFORE MOVING TO STEP 3. The topics are listed below:


  • Cyberbullying
  • Social Networking (Social Media)
  • Sexting/Cell Phones
  • Online Identity Theft
  • NOTE: You will need to list websites for the topic you choose. Only list the sites that you use for information in your brochure.

3. Go to the Evaluation page of the webquest and print off a rubric. Be sure the rubric is printed in Landscape orientation.


Create a Brochure

4. Open Microsoft Publisher. Click BUILT IN > Brochures > select a template you like. Choose your Color and Font Schemes and click CREATE. You will be able to modify all aspects of the brochure (fonts, colors, photos, text boxes, etc.) later. There are examples of brochures in the Webquest on the Examples page. 

Save as:

  • Working as a group: LastNameLastNameBrochure
  • Working individually: LastNameFIBrochure
  • ***FI means your first initial of your first name***

REQUIREMENTS:

Cover Panel

  • Title In Word Art
  • Appropriate graphic to grab reader's attention.
  • Create a slogan or catch phrase.
Back Panel

  • Name(s), Class, School and Date
  • Good spot for another graphic
Other Panels

  • Appropriate graphics to add visual appeal, but don't overdo it.
  • Use captions for images obtained from the Internet. Royalty free images do not need a caption unless otherwise noted.
  • Clear topic headings (make them stand out a little)
  • Links to resources to find more information (may use the resources I provided).

Misc.

  • BE CREATIVE!!! Experiment with the different formatting elements of Publisher and let your imagination run wild.
  • Insert your own shapes and format elements to earn more points.

5. PREVIEW your work!When dealing with a bunch of graphics, make sure the text is easy to read and the graphics do not "take away" from the information. Try to avoid any large amount of blank space.


6. PROOFREAD. Proper spelling, capitalization, and punctuation are a must.


Turning In

7. When directed to by Mr. Kurtz, you will print your brochure (print on both sides of the page, Flip on Short Edge) and/or submit to Mr. Kurtz (dbinbox). You will also turn in a rubric and your research sheet with your name(s) on it. Mr. Kurtz will direct you when to do this.
