Theme: Plants

Sub- Theme: what are Plants

Age Group: 4 years

Section One: Circle Time (30-45 mins)

Activity: Calendar,Numbers from (1-30), Days of the week, Months of the Year, Weather, The Alphabet Chart, Picture Discussion

Objectives: After Picture discussion children should be able to:

1.     Identify a Plant

2.     Speak freely about a plant

3.     Tell some of the characteristics of a plant

4.     Describe a Plant

5.     Tell what plants need to survive

Concept and Content:

God made all plants, plants grow all over the world. Plants are living things, they need food, air, sunlight and water to live or they will die. New plants come from a seeds, stems, leaves or roots of older plants. Plants are different from other living things, they do not move from place to place as people or animals do. Plants have different colours, shapes and sizes; some plants grow big and tall, e.g. mango and breadfruit trees; some plants are little/small and short, e.g. sorrel and mint plants.

Materials:

Picture chart, sample of a plant, crayons, pencils, book

Learning Activities: ( 30 mins)

Introduction:

Teacher and students will sing a song about plants       

Children and Teacher will look at pictures with different plants

2.     Ask children about who made the plants and where can we find plants

3.     From the discussion teacher will that plants are living things and students will also tells what living thing are.

4.     Building on children responses and knowledge to tell what plants need to survive.

5.      Teacher will display pictures with plants and also sample of plants and allow children to observe and speak freely about plants.

6.     Ask children, if they have any tree at home and what type of trees they have.

Teacher and students will take a nature walk to see the different types of trees are at the school.

7.      Teacher will end the lesson by letting the children listen to: �The Needs of Plant.�
