Surf the Web

  1. Now you will learn about the types of musical instruments. To do this follow the first link in the resources section. Choose one instrument of each type and listen how it sounds.
  2. Read about the history of musical instruments. The link is in the resources. Write down what the first instrument was, who worked in the sphere of music, how it developed throughout history. 
  3. Next step is to read about the musical instruments of different continents. You will find the links in the resources section. The main idea is to find some similarities and differences in the development of musical instruments on different continents. 
  4. Find out what are the strangest musical instruments invented by people. The link in the resources section will help you. 

Work in groups
  1. Divide into groups. Each group should choose one continent or one country. The chosen places must not coincide. 
  2. Discuss in group the pecularities of the musical instruments or the music itself in the place you have chosen. For example which type of musical instruments is the most preferred in this place, the time when the first instrument was invented there, do the people of this place love music etc.
  3. Write down the results of your discussion. 
  4. Each group must present the results to other groups.

  2. To consolidate your knowledge make a PowerPoint presentation about one of the musical instruments. You can choose any instrument you want, but your presentation must contain information about:
  • how and by whom it was invented
  • which type of instrument it is
  • how it developed throughout history (if it is not a modern musical instrument)
  • how it sounds
  • any facts that you want to add
      3. Show your presentation to the class.
