MAGIC OF BURNING....fire trick???

Dear Students ,

This project can be carried out in the following steps -

1. Group Formation - Make a group of  five members. Try to understand the project through proper discussion.

2. Execution of the Project - Assign role to each member and discuss how to start it. Perform the following activities to understand the concept of Combustion and Flame by procuring different materials to do the activities...

activity 1. To show different components essential for combustion.

 1.      Materials required  to do this activity-   

    A candle, fire to light the candle, a glass tumbler

      METHOD :

** Take the candle and light it with fire.

Observe what happens.

** Now, after sometime, cover the candle with the glasstumbler carefully , While covering the tumbler notice the size of the flame.

What do you notice? Note down your observation.

What all things are necessary for a substance to burn?

Write your conclusion based on your observations.

Activity2. To show that some substances burn with flame and some others do not give out flam

Materials required  are-

Apiece of coal, a candle and matchstick

METHOD:

**Take the candle and light it with the help of a matchstick.

**Take the piece of coal and burn it with fire.

 Now observe both of them for sometime. Is there any difference you notice in theburning of  candle and coal?

           Note down your observations .

**Conclude the activity basing on your observations.

 Activity3.To show different zones of a flame

1.      Things you need are-

A candle , a matchstick

METHOD:

**Take the candle in a candle stand and light it with a matchstick. (Do thisactivity by switching off the fan or else the falme will not be stable!!!)

**Now observe the flame of the candle for sometime.

**Notice the different zones of the flame.

**Notedown your observations on a piece of paper by drawing the structure of theflame and by marking different zones.

**Finally, write down your inference based on your observation and through yourpicture you have drawn.

Activity4. To show that  ignition temperature is essential to reach for any substance to burn.

1.      Materials needed are—

Two paper cups,  water and two lighted candle.

METHOD :

**  Take the paper cups and pour water in one ofthe cups.

**Light two candles.

**Hold the paper cups on top of the candle flame separately.

Observewhat happens. Note down your observations in both the cases.

** What do you infer basing on your observations. Write your conclusion.
