In groups of 3-4, walk through the questions that were provided on the task page. Brainstorm answers to see what you already know and what you will need to research extensively.

Now individually you need to begin your research! Visit, explore and take notes on all of the provided websites. Your notes should be information that you think will help you tell Suri about the American government system. You should be able to answer all of the questions on the task page in your notes from the websites.

  1. Lets start our journey with finding out what a government is all about. Visit the Official Government Page for Kids. On this page you will explore the branches of our government, what our government does and how laws are created.
  2. Next, please visit the Ben's Guide Website. This website has lots of information about our government. Find out why our government is necessary and what it means to be a citizen by exploring the different webpages.
  3. Then, visit this website on Citizenship. You will learn what a citizen is and the freedoms that citizens have.
  4. Finally, visit this website to learn about important people who have impacted the American government: Biographies  . Focus your research on the webpages for George Washington; Thomas Jefferson; Abraham Lincoln;Rosa Parks; Thurgood Marshall; Martin Luther King, Jr.; and Cesar Chavez.

Once you have visited all of the websites and recorded notes that answer all the provided questions, you will need to choose 3 questions to focus on in your email to Suri that you think are important to convince him that the American government is the best! Your email will be in a 3-paragraph letter format with a paragraph for each of your 3 questions.
