Ready-Set-Go!

Here is a list of steps to follow that will help you unscramble the characteristics of fictional and expository texts.

Step 1: Click on the link below to read The Wind and the Sun.  While you are reading, decide if this text is fictional or expository.

Step 2: Now that you have read this text, what is your answer: fictional or expository?  Discuss with your partner what characteristics you detected to make it fictional or expository.  Complete the side you and your partner agreed on for your Fictional and Expository Comparison Chart for this text.

Step 3: Next, you will scroll down to the bottom of the page.  Click on the video The Sun As You've Never Seen It to watch a short clip about the sun.  Discuss with your partner if this is fictional or expository.

Step 4: Click on the link below to read more about the sun.  When you are finished reading, share with your partner what you learned from that text.  Discuss with your partner what characteristics you detected to make it fictional or expository.

Step 5: After reading this text, what did you decide?  Use both the video and the article to complete the other side of your Fictional and Expository Comparison Chart.

Step 6: Once you have filled in characteristics for both fictional and expository texts, write down at least 3 similarities between the two texts.  Your chart should be completed after this step.

Step 7: Now it's your turn!  With your partner, design a poster that represents both texts including similarities and differences between the two texts.
