How Women Helped Win World War II
Process
First
Create a cover page for your journal with a title and your name. Leave a space for a picture. You will draw a picture for your cover later.
AND
Find out what a Rosie is. Use this WWII Glossary. Define Rosie in your own words on page 1 of your journal.
Second
Find out how Rosies helped take over the jobs American soldiers left behind. Write 2 facts in your journal on page 2.
Watch Assembly Line: Women Riveting 1 and Assembly Line: Women Riveting 2.
OR
Read the first paragraph here and pages 1 to 3 here.
Third
Learn about the types of jobs Rosies did during the war. Write down at least 3 of the jobs Rosies did on page 3 in your journal.
Explore the pictures and their captions (words describing the pictures) here OR here.
Fourth
Find out what life was like for a Rosie.
Read at least 2 stories: Susan, Ida, Tessie, Armentha, Grace, OR Helyn. In your journal on pages 4 and 5, record both women's names, their jobs, where they lived, and a connection you had while reading their story.
AND
Listen to 1 of these sound clips to find out what factories sounded like: quiet clip OR loud clip. Write an onomatopoeia (a word that copies the sound) on page 6. (Example: diddit diddit drit!)
Last
Go back to your cover page. Draw a picture of a Rosie at work.
