Addition and Subtraction, Grade 4

Step 1

Firstyou will make a list of all of the friends and family you want to buy for. Thelist should have a minimum of 5 people.  This is your Friends and Familylist.  You will turn this list into me.  I will then assign you amoney amount and that is what you can use to buy the presents you would like tobuy.

Step2

Then you will go tostores or go on store websites to find items that you would like to buy and theprices for all of them. Be sure to keep track of what you want to buy and theprices as you go along.  Write the items and the prices down as you go ona separate list to turn in to me.  This list is your Items and Priceslist.  There is a minimum of 10 items on this list. Here are some storesites you can use to look for presents and prices.

Step 3

When you feel as though you are getting close to your money limit,add all the prices of all of the items up.  If you are morethan 20.00 Rufiyaa under, keep finding items.  If you are morethan 20.00 Rufiyaa over you will need to subtract some items from your list.Write all of the addition and subtraction out on your Items and Prices list. Ido not care if the list looks a bit unorganized and things are crossed out.  I just want to seeyour work.

Step4

Once you are 20.00 Rufiyaa under or over your limit,make your Holiday Present Budget Chart.  Again your chart should include:

1. The names of the people you are buying for

2. The items you are buying

3. How many of each item

4. How much they cost

5. The grand total

Lastly, you will use what youhave learned to create a story problem.  You will use your holiday presentbudget chart to create this story problem.  Use the information you havelearned.  Be creative! There are many ways to do this story problem. You will write this story problem on a poster board, solve it on the posterboard, and bring it into class to present to your classmates and myself. You will read your story problem, explain how you solved it, and tell us onething you learned about doing this assignment.  Make the poster boardcolorful and fun!
