Cultural Awareness: Different is Good!

While in class, students will be required to write down on a piece of paper a different culture other than their own in which they would like to complete research and present a display to the entire class.  Their request will be approved by the teacher that same day.  Students will be allowed to work on their project in class and will be given many opportunities to go tothe school library and computer lab for research purposes and the opportunity to get their projects completed.  The teacher will provide, if needed, items that can be used for dress and or artifacts for the student projects.  Some basic information that students are required to discuss and present a presentation on are the native language, religious preference, traditions (food, dance, music, holidays they observe, etc.). Students will include in their presentation any misconceptions of their culture and identify the truths associated with the culture.   Students will give information on how this culture has impacted society and any noteworthy contributions the culture has contributed to society.  On the day of presentation, students willd ress the part and present their presentations to their classmates.  Students can also interview their classmates for further knowledge and real world experiences information.  Students will also be allowed to invite their parents and or community leaders to see their performance during this event.
