Process

Billy had to work for a long time to earn enough money to buy his dogs. He kept his money in an old coffee tin. How hard would it be for you to earn enough money for 2 dogs? Find two dogs that you would want as your own on the Petfinder website and then create a budget that details what you'd have to do to get them. Your budget should include 5 different jobs or chores that you could do for a source of income and an estimate of how much you think you should get paid.

1. Finding your dogs: Using the Petfinder website (use link below): Enter in the zipcode: 30097 into the window. Leave the rest of the form blank and push the red search button. Look at the listed dogs until you've found two dogs that you are interested in.  Write down their breeds and the cost of the adoption fees.  If you cannot locate a fee, use the fee of $150.  Save a picture of your dog in your network folder.

2. Creating a budget. Follow the directions on the Budget website below to create your own budget.  Print the budget sheet below and complete.

Dan encountered a mountain lion at the end of the book.  Most of the time, the two dogs found themselves going head-to-head with raccoons. Read the two websites about Mountain Lions and Raccoons.

3. Compare and contrast Mountain Lions and Raccoons. Create a Venn diagram that compares and contrasts raccoons and mountain lions. Each category should have at least 5 facts or observations.

Now that we've finished the book, it's time to take a look back and see what was important.

4. Writing a summary of "Where the Red Fern Grows". Click on the "TV411 Summarizing" website below and complete the activities. When you've completed this activity,  you are to write your own summary of "Where the Red Fern Grows".  Your summary should be typed.

Now that we've read the whole book and summarized what it's about, we're ready to design you own book cover.

6. Making a book cover: TBD
