Process

1. Form a triad with your classmates; each member will be responsible for analyzing a fairy tale.  Individually, you will create a Story Elements Graphic Organizer and identify the main characters, setting, plot, conflict and resolution, and theme of the fairy tale of your choice.  To analyze a fairy tale, see the Resource Page.  If you need a little help creating your graphic organizer you may find some on the Resource Page.

2. After you analyze your fairy tale and complete your graphic organizer, you will return to your triad.  As a group, you will discuss the story elements of the fairy tales you have researched.  See Resource Page for additional help.

3. After you have compared and contrasted your fairy tale elements, you will begin your enchanted tale. The members of the group will separate and independently create one of the following: the good character (the protagonist), the evil character (antagonist), or the setting of the story. *It is very important for each group member to independently create his or her task*

4. After each member has created their character and/or setting using vivid description, you will reassemble as a team.

5. As a team, you will compose a fairy tale using the characters and setting you have created.  The fairy tale should include all necessary story elements, including a dramatic climax and memorable resolution.  Be sure to include vivid verbs, personification, and exaggerated details (hyperbole) to create an enchanted tale that the reader will remember until the end of time.

6. The final component of this web quest is to present your fairy tale.   The presentation options are endless: you may create a digital story, PowerPoint presentation, illustrated book, recorded narration, play, etc.

Creativity is the key to creating a fairy tale.  The reader will be inspired by the hero/heroine, angered by the villain, and intrigued by the cast of magical characters while being entranced by the storyline. These are the elements that give fairy tales their lasting appeal throughout the centuries.
