Let Us Bring David Archuleta to Prom
Process
Step 1: Video presentation.
The teacher will introduce the unit by distributing the introduction provided. The teacher will also show a movie at the beginning of this unit that discusses cartooning, audience, and work skills.
Step 2: Develop cartoons and puzzles.
Students will use makebeliefscomix.com to develop appropriate cartoons of their choosing. They may relate to school-based activities, or to depict what happens at public hotspots, or to convince David Archuleta why he should sing at our prom.
Students will also use http://www.armoredpenguin.com/wordsearch/ to help them make at least one puzzle.
Step 3: Develop polls.
Students will use Survey Monkey (surveymonkey.com) to develop polls to gauge town and school-wide favorites there are in such areas as sports, clubs, classes, games, and music as well as hot topics, spots, and activities.
Note: They’ll sign up free for the basics, and then create their survey. They may use social networking sites to help their polls as well.
Step 4: Investigation of the writing process.
Students will become experts in brainstorming, drafting, editing, revising, and publishing their pieces for the magazine, eventually publishing the magazine themselves.
Step 5: Engage in the writing process; use the Believing and Doubting games and cite!!
Students will visit writingcommons.org/process to learn and practice the Belief and Doubting Gamesas they engage in the writing process.
Step 6: Compile and publish into a magazine.
