History of Medicine

Process

You will be using several different sites to gather information about the history of medicine. Once you've completed your research you will create a try-fold brochure on one specific period of medical history.

Task 1

Explore the Kids Work History of Medicine time line. Take notes in your STIR journal, make sure to include information about the five periods shown on the time line: Ancient Times, Dark and Middle Ages, The Renaissance, 18th-19th Century, and Modern Medicine.

Task 2

Explore the Learning from the Past time line. Take notes in your STIR journal about the nine different periods presented on this time line. You may use the interactive time line or the electronic resource pages to gather the information.

Task 3

Explore the electronic book from the Massachusetts Academy of Math and Science (resource below). Chose one of the 15 diseases and record information about that disease in your STIR journal.

Task 4

Explore the History of Immunizations Schedule Time Line. Chose one event from each time period and write a brief discription in your STIR journal (7 total)

Task 5

Explore this interactive activity Doctor over Time. In this activity you will be asked to choose a year 1900, 1950, or 1998. Then you will be asked to choose one of three issues you are having. Record in your STIR journal the following information about your doctors visit: examination, diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis. You should have this information for each year (1900, 1950, and 1998) and how the doctor visit information recorded in your journal. Make sure you follow at lead one ailment completely through the three time periods. (if the interactive does not launch use the text version)

Task 6

Use the information gathered in task 1 through task 4 to create a trifold brochure which includes:

The front of the brochure needs to have your name and period along with an image.
No page of just images
Images need to be clear and the source must be listed under the photo. (minimum of 4)
Content to include information about a period of medical history, a disease, and a vaccine.
On back cover place the STIR logo (below)
Must be turned in through Edmodo
