Day 1 (American History)

materials:

ruler, computer paper, crayons or markers, and pencil

Visit the following site:

Read the information pertaining to the Olympic host cities of the past.  How many Olympic games have been held in the United States?  Construct a timeline indicating the year and location for all Olympic games (both Summer and Winter) that were held in the United States.

 

Day 2 (World History)

materials:

cardstock, compass, crayons or markers, and pencil

Visit the following sites:

 Read about the ancient games.  Then, read about the modern Olympic games.  Make a list of similarites and differences among the two.  Using the information you have gathered, construct a Venn diagram to compare and contrast the modern and ancient Olympic games.

 

Day 3 (Civics)

Read about the Olympic hero Jackie Joyner Kersee.  Explore not only her accomplishments, but about her character.  How do sports help prepare you to be a productive member of society?  How can sports shape your character?  Write an essay in which you explain how participating in sports shaped Jackie Joyner Kersee's character and enabled her to be a contributing member of society.  Also, include information pertaining to your life:  how would you give back to the community if you were in a position to do so?

 

Day 4 (Geography)

materials:

paper, pencil, and Microsoft Word program

London is in the United Kingdom.  Explore the geography of the United Kingdom.  Choose five landforms from you research and write a description of each.  Using the table tab in Microsoft Word, construct a table to summarize your findings.

 

Day 5 (Economics)

The Olympic games can have an effect on the economy of the host city?  Explore the factors that affect the economy.  You are the mayor of a fictitious city.  (You may choose the name of your city.)  Write a speech to convince your local citizens to apply to be the host city of the Olympic games.  Make sure to outline all of the economic advantages that could resut as an outcome.
