English/Language Arts Lesson Activity

Summary:

Writing in daily journals gives the teacher and students the opportunity to be creative with writing assignments. The prompts can be real or fictional, narrative or poetic, etc. The options are limitless. For this learning activity, students will use their daily journals to answer the prompt ‘the best day I ever spent playing soccer’. The activity can be real if the students have played soccer or fictitious if they have not and the students will need to describe with detail what they learned that day and how it has influenced their outlook on life. The students’ writing will be assessed based on creativity, writing style, vocabulary and grammar, and connection to the unit.

Directions:

 In your journal, write an entry discussing the following topic: The best day I ever spent playing soccer.

Learning Goals: Students will be able to write a narrative using descriptive vocabulary and relate content to the lesson.

Time: Students will have 15 minutes at the beginning of class to write this narrative.
