Adaptation Investigation

Please complete the following steps in order:

1. Choose an organism.  (This may be any live organism--no extinct ones!  It may be an organism that you are familiar with, your favorite organism, or an organism that you are curious about).  In order to assist you in choosing an organism by providing ideas of unique organisms, please view the "Bat Capture" video (Resource #1 at the bottom of the page) and the "Birds of Paradise" video (Resource #2).  Then, write the name of your chosen organism in your Interactive Science Notebook.
2. Begin researching your organism by visiting the websites labeled "Resource #3" and "Resource #4" (at the bottom of the page).  Remember to research all aspects of your organism, including:  the biome and specific habitat, the niche (what your organism eats, how it obtains its food, how it interacts with other organisms, and special adaptations that your organism has that enable it to survive in the environment).  Take notes in your Interactive Science Notebook.
3. Once you are finished researching, you may begin constructing a trading card/baseball card that highlights all of the characteristics of your organism.  You will share this trading card/baseball card with your classmates and teacher!  Visit "Resource #5" (at the bottom of the page)to get you in the mood.  Visit "Resource #6" for the Baseball Card Template and Example.  DO NOT PRINT UNTIL YOU HAVE ASKED FOR AND BEEN GIVEN PERMISSION!!!!  Also, be sure to visit the Evaluation page to see what the requirements are for your card and how you will be graded.  Best of luck!

The requirements for your trading/baseball card are as follows:

1.  You must provide a name and a picture of your organism (You may print out a picture, but please make sure that it is small enough to fit on the provided index cards.  All information must fit on one index card, front and back.)

2.  You must provide the biome and habitat in which your organism lives.

3.  You must provide information regarding the niche of your organism (be sure that you understand what "niche" refers to).

4.  You must provide information regarding special adaptations that your organism has that enable it to survive in the environment.

**Your card should be neat and colorful....please take pride in your work!**
