Our Colour World

Process

The materials you will need to create your colour wheel are: 

A plain sheet, (three paints) red, yellow and blue, one paint brush, pencil, a pair of scissors and paper 

towel.

Step 1

Read information from the website 


Step 2

Answer the questions in your journal

1. What are primary colours?

2. Name all the primary colours?

3. Can primary colours create other colours?

4. Name one colour that can be created  by mixing two primary colours 

5. If we mix red and yellow which colour will we get? 

Step 3

Watch a video on creating colour wheel. As you watch the video, pay attention to: the circle, lines, 

primary colours  and the way the paints are mixed, 


Step 4- Time to make your own colour wheel

  (a) Get a clean sheet of white paper and a sharpened pencil.

  (b) Make a small/large circle in the middle of the page. This circle would represent the size of the 

   colour wheel.

Step 5

1. Mark a big X an the circle to cover the boundary line. 

2. Draw a line in the middle of the X from top to bottom. 

You should have six segments/triangles.



Step 6

Take out a small portion of paint from the three paints, just enough to paint your colour wheel.
                                                                           

                                                                                   
Step 7

Paint three of the six triangles. Select one triangle and paint it with red, skip the second trianlge, paint 

the third one yellow,  skip the fourth triangle and paint the fifth one blue. 






Step 8


Create three secondary colours. Use the one paint brush to dip into two primary colours and paint a 

plain sheet to view the secondary colour created, mix other colours to create other secondary colours.



When you discover a new colour, paint it in one triangle and continue the process until 

all six triangles are painted with different colours. 

Step 9

 Put your painting to dry. Watch a video and do the activities required.


Step 10 

After the  paint is dry, use the scissors to cut around the edge of the circle.  

Step 11

1. Use the table provided to record the secondary colours that you have created. 

2. Beside each secondary colour, write the names of the two primary colours that were mixed.

Step 12

Share your colour wheel with your classmates, by naming the secondary colours created and the 

primary colours that were mixed to produce each colour.



Step 14

 Write your names on the back of your colour wheel and display it in the Art room in the area marked 

"Our world of colours".
