The Dead Zone

Now it’s time to create your Public Service Announcement. Your goal is to get people in the community to change their practices and reduce the amount of nutrients entering the local waterways, so dissolved oxygen levels will rise and the fish and crabs will return. Remember, your PSA needs to educate others about the problems created by the new development and encourage them to take action...let them know what they can do to help bring back the fish and crabs!

Your PSA should be interesting, exciting, and engaging. It can be a poster (22”x28” or larger), a radio announcement (60-90 seconds), or a television announcement (60-90 seconds). Make it creative! Most of all, educate and inspire others. Share the knowledge you have learned from this webquest & let others know what they can do to help! Your PSA will be assessed based on the rubric below.

Once you create your Public Service Announcement, you will present it to the class. The class will then act as the "homeowners association council" and vote on the best, most influential Public Service Announcement. The winning team will earn 10 extra credit points on their final project grade!

If you need some help getting started, check out the videos below for some examples of Public Service Announcements.
