Welcome to time machine stop #3. Now that you have learned the lifestyles of Nevada's Desert Archaic People, and you have learned what it took to be a native american leader, and what it takes now to be  a great leader, you will learn about where those native american leaders originally lived in Nevada with their tribes. There were five major tribes in Nevada to begin with, and each of you will become an expert on one of these five tribes. You will live the life of a member in your tribe, to find what your tribe eats, does for fun, and does to survive in the dry desert. You will also create a map describing where you live in Nevada compared to the other four tribes that also live in Nevada.

Territories is a vocabulary word we are going to learn, act out and practice in order to help us better understand this leson. A territory is an area of land that someone rules. In order to better understand this word, as a table group, choose a square on the classroom floor, and this is your table's territory. What might happen if you go into another table groups territory?

Consider this question: Why does it matter where the tribes territories were? Do you think the territiories played a vital role in resrouces and tribe culture? Why or why not.

Northern Paiute: If you are given the task of living the life of a Northern Paiute, you will discover all about your tribe, and anything that interests you about them using the provided websites. You will also look at table #1 in our classroom where artifacts from your tribe have been displayed to help you remember what life was like for your tribe. In addition, you need to know where your tribe was originally located in the state of Nevada.

Southern Paiute: If you are given the task of living the life of a Southern Paiute, you will discover all about your tribe, and anything that interests you about them using the provided websites. You will also look at table #2 in our classroom where artifacts from your tribe have been displayed to help you remember what life was like for your tribe. In addition, you need to know where your tribe was originally located in the state of Nevada.

Walapai (Hualapai): If you are given the task of living the life of a Walapai, you will discover all about your tribe, and anything that interests you about them using the provided websites. You will also look at table #3 in our classroom where artifacts from your tribe have been displayed to help you remember what life was like for your tribe. In addition, you need to know where your tribe was originally located in the state of Nevada.

Washoe: If you are given the task of living the life of a Washoe, you will discover all about your tribe, and anything that interests you about them using the provided websites. You will also look at table #4 in our classroom where artifacts from your tribe have been displayed to help you remember what life was like for your tribe. In addition, you need to know where your tribe was originally located in the state of Nevada.

Western Shosone: If you are given the task of living the life of a Western Shoshone, you will discover all about your tribe, and anything that interests you about them using the provided websites. You will also look at table #5 in our classroom where artifacts from your tribe have been displayed to help you remember what life was like for your tribe. In addition, you need to know where your tribe was originally located in the state of Nevada.

Each table group will have a member from each tribe. When studying about your tribe and where they were located in Nevada, you may work with classmates in other groups that are also a member of your same tribe. Working together, you should discover all about your tribe using the provided websites, and learn where they were located in Nevada. As you discover things about your tribe, and where they are located, record learnings that are important to you in your social studies journal, in order to go back to your original group, and be the expert on what your life in your tribe is like. You will also need to be able to tell your group where your tribe is located in Nevada.

Now that you have shared all about your life in your tribe, and where your tribe is located, you will make a poster that includes a map of Nevada and where your tribe is located. Your map should include the territorial lines in which your tribe lived, as well as the other four tribes in Nevada. On this poster, you will also tell many of your recent learnings about your tribe. Remember to be as creative as you wish, and have fun learning all about the native american territories that orginally were in Nevada.

To self-assess your work, see the attatched self-assessment checklist. Revise your work as needed, and if you feel you have met or exceeded the expectations, put your poster of your map and interesting learnings of your tribe in your time machine portfolio and go to time machine stop #4.
