During this project the students will:

Explain why Puritans set up the Massachusetts Bay Colony.

Identify the founders of Connecticut and Rhode Island.

Describe what life was like in the New England colonies.

Explain why William Penn started a colony in North America.

Explain why the Middle Colonies were known as the Breadbasket Colonies.

Describe backcountry life.

Explain why Southern Colonies were founded.

Describe the two ways of life that developed in the Southern Colonies.

Explain why slavery became important in the South.

Explain why England passed the Navigation Acts.

Describe what colonial governments were like.

Summarize the rights English colonies enjoyed.

Describe features of the Great Awakening.

Explain how colonists educated their children.

Describe how new ideas spread through the colonies.   

Summarize early representative governments and identify democratic practices that emerged including town meetings and colonial assemblies.

Evaluate the competition for control of territory and resources in North America.
