The Bystander Project
Your task will be to create an informational video on:
- what a bystander is,
- how important they can be to stop bullying,
- and steps bystanders can take to help keep others safe from bullies
and other potential threats.
Your video must:
- have an eye-catching, relevant title at the beginning
- have a slogan that will help the audience memorize your
theme/message
- have well-rehearsed drama that seriously focuses on your
theme/message
- demonstrate that ALL members of your group contributed
Your video should NOT contain:
- silly situations or instances where the theme/message is not treated
seriously
- outtakes, bloopers or anything else that does not relate to the project
Creating the Video
You will be using the school's video camera(s) and Animoto to create your video. Here is where you'll learn to work as a team to complete your video by the due date, keeping in mind that we will be sharing video cameras and learning how to create videos as we go along.
To ensure making your video goes smoothly, you should:
- have a USB memory stick (jumpdrive) to save your videos
- a video camera (to be shared by the class)
- plan ahead to make sure your group is signed up to use the video
camera AND know exactly what you're going to do during the short
time you have the camera.
What Can You Be Doing While You Don't Have the Camera?
First of all, create a script outlining the ideas and dialogue you'll be using in your video.
Remember, the focus of your video is to teach students the power bystanders have to stop bullying and keep others safe from potential threats. Treat this subject matter seriously, because to many it is a serious issue.
Next, watch both videos below to familiarize yourself with Animoto.
The link to Animoto is here. Your teacher will supply you with information on how to access Animoto. Play with the program so you get used to how it works and maybe get some ideas for your project.
Also, rehearse your script and acting several times.
Discuss with your group:
- does our video focus on the project's expectations?
- is there a way to make our video even better?
- how can we make our video different from everyone else?
- have we made sure there is equal participation throughout the group?
- is our video believable (ie. is what happens realistic?)
- is our message absolutely clear in the video?
