20140611050624uPuMe.jpg

This activity will help connect our study of Japanese Industrialization and Nationalism from last unit to our study of the decline of Imperial China at the hands of European powers.

Both of these stories will CONVERGE in our UNIT 9: Between The Wars study...and then lead into our study of  UNIT 10:World War II next quarter.

This activity will help connect what we have studied so far with our current study and then look forward to our future study.

GROUPS A and B (working separately)

Directions- Using the FLOW CHART and ARTICLE The Decline of Imperial China create an ANNOTATED TIMELINE of major events that contributed to the DECLINE of Imperial China.

GROUPS C and D (working separately)

Directions- Using the FLOW CHART and ARTICLE The Emergence of Modern Japan and the

slide share Imperialist Japan create an ANNOTATED TIMELINE of major events that contributed to

the RISE of Japan as a modern imperial power.

WHAT IS AN ANNOTATED TIMELINE?  GLAD YOU ASKED!

Like all timelines, the annotated timeline features dates but adds creative ideas, including illustrations, quotes, analysis, biographical sketches, maps, charts, drawings, and concepts. You will design your timeline around some unifying illustration or theme.  Use the EXAMPLES below to help provide an idea of how you would like to set up your annotated timeline.

An annotated timeline = a chronological listing with a brief summary of each entry

Timeline requirements:
Minimum of 8 entries on timeline (Can have up to 10)

Chronological order of entries w/dates listed

Central illustration or theme

Neat & colorful layout & design of timeline

Summaries are historically accurate & in your own words

Title for timeline

EXAMPLE 1           EXAMPLE 2                EXAMPLE 3              EXAMPLE 4

Since you only have ONE class period to complete this as a group, your timeline obviously
doesn't have to be as elaborate as the examples shown here.

But it should include all the REQUIREMENTS listed above.

Day 2

Once each group has finished its timeline, they will...

Now THAT would be telling!

Let's just say you will share your information and EVERYONE will be responsible for ALL OF IT!

So DO A GREAT JOB on the TIMELINE!

BIG IDEA/QUESTIONS:

PREDICT: What do you think will happen as a result of the decline of Imperial China, and the rise of Imperial Japan?
