Introduction

Immigrants have always been a driving force for advancement in America in the good and bad times. Since its inception the US has relied on immigration...from the Irish immigrants who supported the Union Army during the American Civil War to the Mexican Bracero workers who provided food production in the United States during World War II, to the immigrant entrepreneurs from around the world who helped rebuild the economy after the Great Recession.
As the US faces another critical time in its history with the COVID-19, immigrants in this country are exactly where they have always been risking their lives as essential workers in order to ensure our communities stay safe, healthy and supported. Immigrants are on the front lines in greater numbers in the fields of health care, Biology research and other industries that have been deemed essential by our government, such as food/agriculture and transportation. However many of those immigrants (undocumented) working on the front lines as essential workers don't get help from the government and have not been included in the stimulus package. In this WebQuest, you will learn about the roles of immigrants as essential workers in this pandemic and their contributions to society. You will take the role of a US senator, and present to your fellow congress members your plan to include undocumented immigrants in the next stimulus package during COVID-19 pandemic.
