Brass, Woodwind, String, Percussion...How do I choose?

 

As rising sixth grade students, you will soon have the difficult task of choosing electives for the first year of middle school.  Choosing which instrument to play can be challenging, too.  How do you know which you might like to play?  Are you the jazzy saxophone type, or maybe a brassy trumpet player?  Perhaps you've had your sights set on becoming the next Yo-Yo Ma or Joshua Bell.  This webquest is meant to assist you in selecting an instrument by guiding you to explore the members of each instrument family, offering first-hand interviews with some professional instrumentalists, and assessing the knowledge you gain along the way.  In this WebQuest, you will use the power of teamwork to learn about the Brass, Woodwind, String, and Percussion Families.  Within your team of four, each of you will become an expert on one instrument family, sharing what you learn to help each other to become more familiar with each instrument family.  This information is meant to help you select an instrument you will enjoy!
