Introduction to WebQuests & FitnessGram Testing and its' Software Program

WHAT IS A WEBQUEST.....

• A WebQuest is an inquiry-oriented activity in which most or all of the information used by learners is drawn from the Web.
• A well developed WebQuest is designed so that the individual is effectively using their time by using the organized and focused materials and resources allotted to them instead of searching for it. 
• A WebQuest contributes to ensuring that an individual remains on task while online.
• WebQuests extend the students' thinking to the higher levels of Bloom�s taxonomy; analysis, synthesis and evaluation.
• WebQuests also support a variety of instructional and cognitive practices such as critical thinking and problem solving through authentic assessment, cooperative learning, scaffolding and technology integration.
• One may incorporate WebQuests into their instruction to introduce a topic or to conclude a unit, as a culmination activity.
• WebQuests may also be used to foster cooperative learning through collaborative activities with a group project.
• Teachers use WebQuests to encourage independent thinking and to motivate students; thus increasing learning.
• Finally, WebQuests can be designed to help enhance student�s technological competencies.           

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                 This WebQuest is designed for several different reasons.  It is designated as a way to introduce to the learner what a WebQuest is.  It is will be used to expose the future health and physical educator to this exciting educational technology program. It will also introduce to you the FitnessGram Program and the Health Related Fitness Components it assesses.  It will prepare you to participate in the FitnessGram tests to be conducted in class.  It will provide the instructions for your WebQuest project, which is an at home assessment where your students/clients will participate in a Health or Physical Education WebQuest of your own creation utilizing the Zunal.com website.  

The ultimate goal of this lesson is to have students objectively look at different technological instructional systems and extract the elements that may work for them in their future profession.
