Do you know someone who smokes cigarettes? Do you know the long term side effects of smoking cigarettes? Did you also know that inhaling second hand tobacco smoke has a harmful effect on your body, even though you are not physically smoking the cigarette? The goal of this lesson is for informing high school students of the tragic effects that can happen to their body through smoking cigarettes. At this age is when peer pressure starts occurring and the only way to protect the students is by teaching them. Knowledge is power, and with that power they will have the courage to stand up to the pressures they may encounter. Sheltering the students and pretending as if these pressures don't exist is one of the biggest injustices we as future educators and educators can do. The more the students know the more prepared they will be when they are face to face with peer pressure, and the more likely they will be to say no.
