Playground Re-design
Think of yourself as an architect who wants to construct a playground suitable for all children. Specifically, focusing on handicapped students. It is just as important to make an all inclusive classroom as it is to make an all inclusive playground.
A playground that is fully accessible to handicapped students will allow them to fully enjoy their recess time and you can make it happen by remodeling a playground to add features that accomplish this goal.
By the end of this lesson, the class will have addressed these standards:
- MAFS.912.G-MG.1.3: Apply geometric methods to solve design problems (e.g., designing an object or structure to satisfy physical constraints or minimize cost; working with typographic grid systems based on ratios).
- VA.912.S.3.10: Develop skill in sketching and mark-making to plan, execute, and construct two-dimensional images or three-dimensional models.
- SC.912.CS-CC.1.5: Communicate and publish key ideas and details to a variety of audiences using digital tools and media-rich resources.
- LAFS.910.RI.1.2: Determine a central idea of a text and analyze its development over the course of the text, including how it emerges and is shaped and refined by specific details; provide an objective summary of the text.
