Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (FERPA) Is a federal privacy law that gives parents certain safeguards with regards to their children's education records,. School records could be considered: report cards, home address, disciplinary records, and school schedule. It's important we understand all aspects of FERPA. 

 Why Comply with and understand FERPA?

• It’s the law.

• Failure to comply could result in loss of job.

• Lawsuits caused by violations cost a lot of time and money.

• It is our ethical responsibility to hold student records in confidence in order to protect their privacy.
