Introduction

Many persons advance up the pecking order in the medical field by starting in the capacity of floor staff working up to the middle manager role.  As individuals elect to move up the pecking order to the middle management role, they assume that they will be provided the necessary training and education to be successful in their new role.  All too often, the newly promoted “middle Manager” finds themselves floundering and attempting to just keep their heads above water. They realize that the training and educational opportunities they were expecting to assist in paving their way to success in their new role never comes to fruition.  What an awful way to start a new job! Given the fact that in most, if not all, healthcare institutions, the middle manager is the intermediary between upper management and employees that promotes a successful healthcare organization.  The intent of this project is to narrow that cavernous gap of new manager to successful manager. This will be done by providing a sound educational opportunity that incorporates key managerial tasks such as strategic/budget planning, staff management to include hiring/firing, and quality/personal improvement planning. It will demonstrate along the way that through learning opportunities, the middle manager can be have improved success in their new role.
