Language Development Webquest

      As a currently practicing and future school personnel,  you will be required to prepare your students for the language demands of school and state mandated testing, and society itself.  Research is showing that you need be able to comprehend and apply knowledge and skills in the following:

  1. Supporting oral language development
  2. Explicitly teaching academic language
  3. Valuing cultural diversity and inclusion
  4. Helping ESL students navigate the challenging socio-emotional issues in a K-12 setting
   

 To help you achieve a better conceptual knowledge of supporting language development as it relates to English language learners or ELL students and to you, this present webquest encourages you to discover or reinforce what first language development is and it pushes you to explore and discover the concept of second language acquisition and the corresponding stages of second language acquisition and development.  Additionally, you will explore what being bilingual means and the brain's role in first and second language development.Finally, you will be able to integrate prior learning from previous modules(such as Module 3) to make connections and extend your knowledge, skills, and dispositions.
