ZAPATA ACADEMY SCIENCE FAIR
1. Getting Started
- The scientific method is a way to ask and answer scientific questions by making observations and doing experiments.
- The steps of the scientific method are to:
- Ask a Question
- Do Background Research
- Construct a Hypothesis (you might not have a formal hypothesis until you've completed your research.)
- Test Your Hypothesis by Doing an Experiment
- Analyze Your Data and Draw a Conclusion
- Communicate Your Results
- It is important for your experiment to be a fair test. A "fair test" occurs when you change only one factor (variable) and keep all other conditions the same.
- This site can help you through many steps of your project; be careful to ALSO pay attention to CPS's requirements. CPS has some different requirements than Science Buddies: www.sciencebuddies.org
- The design method is a way to ask and answer design and engineering questions by making observations and testing design prototypes.
- The steps of the scientific method are to:
- -Ask a Question
- -Do Background Research
- -Define a Need (for your design)
- -Test A Prototype
- -Analyze Your Results and Draw a Conclusion
- -Communicate Your Results
- It is important that your design have a purpose and your test be documented with comments on how it could be re-designed to work more effectively.
