  • Through research and thoroughly answering the guiding questions, student demonstrated an understanding of evaluating sources, examining current events, and identifying factors that led to ancient Rome’s fall.
  • Student demonstrated an understanding of writing clear arguments (which include claims, logical reasoning, and conclusion). The group’s written speech in clear and coherent and is a form of persuasive writing.
  • Student demonstrated an understanding of using digital media and visuals to clarify claims and demonstrated how to use research techniques to locate appropriate digital resources. When presenting the group speech, visual aids were used to enhance the speech, making the argument stronger.
  • Through group participation and completion of the group project, student demonstrated an active pursuit of identifying, understanding, and solving real-world issues.

  • When answering individual research questions, answers are well thought out and show a full understanding of the problems ancient Rome faced. The answers are detailed and include examples.
  • Group presentations show a clear understanding of modern problems faced by the United States. The presentation shows connections between the ancient Romans’ problems and current events. The group presentation shows an understanding of how the Romans handled their problems and shows an alternative path for the United States.

  • Student cited specific articles and/or authors when answering their independent questions. At least three different sources were named.
  • At the end of the visual presentation, students included a works cited page for all images used. The works cited page should include a list of images used from public domain to show an understanding of public domain versus copyrighted material.

Student Demonstrated a Self-Assessment for Their Response to the Assigned Task

  • Student submitted a self-assessed student rubric for both the individual and group portions of the WebQuest assignment. The student evaluated their work honestly and included comments about their strengths and weaknesses during this assignment.
  • After presenting their project, student submitted a group reflection paper. The reflection included what went well during the group work and what could be improved next time. They rated their individual collaborative effort and explained how they felt they worked compared to others in their group (their effort was equal to everyone’s effort, they worked harder than some people in their group, or they worked less than others in their group). Student response is supported through providing examples of their contributions to the group project.
