The rubric that follows on this page will be the means of evaluation for this 50 point project. 

A scale is used to evaluate and points will be assigned based on the students' score. 
*The 10 point scale is as follows: Poor: 0-3 points
                                                            Good: 4-6 points
                                                            Excellent: 7-8 points
                                                            Superior: 9-10 points

*The 20 point scale is as follows: Poor: 0-4
                                                            Good: 5-9
                                                            Excellent: 10-14
                                                            Superior: 15-20


Categories include:

1. Research of a choral composer. This should include the contributions and importance of that composer.

2.
Evaluation and description of recordings of various groups with discussions on each. Discussion should be at least one paragraph in length
     and have student opinion as well as documented research.


3.
Research and describe in no more than one paragraph the importance of the content of the piece you've chosen. This should include multiple examples directly from the piece.

4.
In 1-2 paragraphs, reflect on the piece chosen and create a persuasive argument that defends your reasoning for wanting to perform this piece.

Rubric

# Poor Good Excellent Superior Score
Research of a choral composer. This should include the contributions and importance of that composer. Student only lists the name of the composer, does not provide any descriptions. Description of composer is minimal and does not show any extra research outside of the minimal requirements. Research is presented in an organized and educated manor and shows in depth thought and conclusions. Research is presented in an above average way and includes multiple means of finding information. Student shows clear understanding of the composer and their importance to music. 10
Evaluation and description of recordings of various groups with discussions on each. Discussion should be at least one paragraph in length and have student opinion as well as documented research. Student listened to one example of the piece and did not provide a description of the performance or add any personal thought or connection. Student watched and listened to multiple choirs performing their chosen piece and writes a minimal essay on their connection too and the importance of the piece. Research and personal opinions are well presented for multiple pieces listened too. Essay is descriptive and concise. Student listened to and documented in depth many choirs performing the piece. Student's essay is well written and discusses in depth their opinions and emotions connected to the piece along with appropriate research on the choirs and the piece itself. Research is over and above the required minimum. 10
Research and describe in no more than one paragraph the importance of the content of the piece you've chosen. This should include multiple examples directly from the piece. Student did not complete a paragraph or did not use examples directly from the piece, only personal opinions without information to back up ideas. Student has only a few examples about the importance of the content or uses ideas from outside sources without any of their own ideas or opinions. There is not enough information included to back up their claims and ideas. Ideas and arguments are well supported with some sources cited. Examples from the piece are given. Student goes over and above the necessary requirements. Student uses multiple outside cited resources and defends their ideas and arguments in an articulate and convincing way. 10
In 1-2 paragraphs, reflect on the piece chosen and create a persuasive argument that defends your reasoning for wanting to perform this piece. The amount of work does not meet the minimum requirements. Student does not defend their reasoning for the importance of the piece. Very few arguments without much support for opinions. Length of writing meets requirements but content does not. Opinions are supported with enough information provided. Student provides a reasonable argument with many reasons as to why this piece is important and should be performed. The arguments are well supported and documented and describe in depth the importance of the piece for the choir. Student goes over and above the required amount of writing and is convincing in the opinions while defending them eloquently and with merit. 20
