Virginia Natural Resources

Evaluation

Our soil is a living resource with biological, chemical, and physical properties that are always changing. Healthy soil gives us clean air and water, bountiful crops and forests, productive grazing lands, diverse wildlife, and beautiful landscapes.

Dirt or soil contains nutrients that plants need in order to grow. Most of our food comes from crops that grow in the soil. Animals also depend on soil to provide the food they eat.
Corn removes nitrogen from the soil, soybeans return the nitrogen, by planting soybeans after corn, you keep the soil healthy and nutrient full.
