World Religion Vocabulary

Sacred: Regarded with great respect and reverence by a particular religion, group, or individual.


Deity: A god or goddess (in a polytheistic religion).
The creator and supreme being (in a monotheistic religion).

Sect: A group of people with somewhat different religious beliefs  from those of a larger group to which they belong.


Philosophy: An  attitude held by a person or  that acts as a guide for behavior.




Tenet: A main belief of a religion.



Monotheism: The  belief that there is only one God.


Polytheism: The belief in or worship of more than one god.


Atheism: Disbelief in the existence of God or gods.



Religion: The belief in and worship of a superhuman controlling power; A particular system of faith and worship.




Tolerance:  Willingness to recognize and respect the beliefs or practices of others.



Freedom:
    The power or right to act, speak, or think as one pleases.
