Use your loaf, IDIOM!

This excercise focuses on the ideas of Idioms. It allows chrildren grades 3-5 to get a better understanding of what an idiom is and how to use them. The meaning and illustraions give the children a more in touch feel with the word. Materials available for the children to use in order to gather information on idioms are websites and books. When dealing with this particular age group, it is best to use or provide childrens books such as Amelia Bedelia. I found that the best way for children to get the best understanding of the word is to make a list, find the meaning, and then create illustrations to express the meanings of the idioms. Access to the internet is a prerequisite for this activity. Since the children are working in groups, it is not necessary that both children have a computer, but each group must have one accessible.
