What's in a name?

First, explore the links below and learn more about the classification of organisms and the scientific method of taxonomy.

Then, your teacher will assign a kingdom to you. You will then use what you have learned to "discover" a new species within that kingdom. Draw a picture of your organism, and then write a brief but complete description of the organism. For example, your description should include information relevant to classification, such as if it is a vertebrate if it is an animal or how it produces offspring.

Using your description, classify and name the organism.

You will then share your organism with the class. You must be able to explain how you classified and named the organism using the conventions of taxonomy to your class mates.
