Colorado History: Do Colorado
Colorado is full of beautiful sights and wonderful activities to keep visitors and residents busy all year round. Colorado is the nation's leading ski-resort area. Those who enjoy participating in winter sports will find more than 20 major ski areas in the cities of Aspen, Steamboat Springs, Telluride, and Vail. Scattered across the mountainous regions of Colorado are plenty of frozen ponds and lakes where ice skaters can practice their graceful jumps or work on their hockey skills.
During the summer months, water skiing, boating, fishing, whitewater rafting, kayaking, and swimming can be enjoyed throughout Colorado. Hiking, climbing, and biking can be enjoyed in all three regions of Colorado depending on the type of terrain you are looking for. Baseball, softball, soccer, golf, volleyball, football, and tennis are offered to people of all ages through Colorado's city parks and recreation areas.
Of course, those who enjoy watching sports instead of playing them can head over to the city of Denver to see their favorite professional team play. Sports fans can watch the Colorado Rockies baseball team, Denver Nuggets basketball team, Colorado Avalanche hockey team, Denver Broncos football team, or the Colorado Rapids soccer team. The Colorado Chill, a professional women's basketball team, plays in the city of Loveland.
Denver also hosts the National Western Stock Show and Rodeo. This is the largest rodeo in the world. Professional cowboys and cowgirls from across the country ride bucking broncos and lasso calves.
Colorado also features four national parks, six national monuments, 11 national forests, and dozens of state parks and historic places of interest. People from all over the world visit Colorado's points of interests. These tourists help the economy of Colorado by spending money to stay in hotels, eat in restaurants, and shop for souvenirs. The fees paid to enter Colorado's parks and monuments help keep these places beautiful so everyone can enjoy them.
