Light and Photoelectric Effect

In an unexplained laboratory experiment conducted by some visiting high school students last summer semester, a gold leaf was observed to stand in thin air, whilst being suspended from a thin rod. When the attached zinc plate was exposed to an ultra-violet source,  the gold plate would flap down along side the thin rod. When the zinc plate was exposed to red light, the gold leaf did not move from its suspended position. The experiment and its results were not explained to them. The said students will be returning to the campus this Friday afternoon, for the year old experiment to be explained to them. Can you guess what the experiment was about? Can you guess today's topic? Light and the Photoelectric Effect! I hope you guessed correctly. Well, well, now that you are here, let the web quest begin...
