Surveys are used in everyday life to gather information.  Your family might take an informal survey to decide which restaurant to go to for dinner.  The restaurant you go to might use a survey to determine which foods to serve based on the likes or dislikes of their customers.  Many businesses use the information gathered from surveys to help make important decisions about what products to create and which direction to take their business.  Whether they are done formally or informally, surveys are very useful.
