Welcome: Preventing the spread of Covid-19 Pandemic
Description: through this Webquest, students will learn about the Covid-19 pandemic how to provide ways to mitigate the spread of Sars-Cov-2 (COVID-19). A pandemic is a contagious and deadly illness that rapidly spreads across an entire country or the entire world. Scientists last encountered a severe pandemic caused by the H1N1 virus that spread worldwide during 1918-1919. In the United States, it was first identified in military personnel in spring 1918. It is estimated that about 500 million people or one-third of the world’s population became infected with this virus. The number of deaths was estimated to be at least 50 million worldwide with about 675,000 occurring in the United States. Now we are faced with a new virus, a novel coronavirus dubbed as Sars-Cov-2 that leads to Covid-19. This new virus and disease were unknown before the outbreak began in Wuhan, China, in December 2019. The World Health Organization (WHO) on 2020 March 11 declared COVID-19 a pandemic, pointing to the over 169,000 cases of the coronavirus illness in over 146 countries and territories around the world and the sustained risk of further global spread. On 30 January 2020, the Philippine Department of Health (DOH) reported the first case of COVID-19 in the country with a 38-year-old female Chinese national. On 7 March, the first local transmission of COVID-19 was confirmed. Code Red Level 2 was raised nationwide after reports of sustained local transmission. As of March 16, 2020, the DOH has recorded 140 confirmed cases and 12 deaths linked to the virus. Because of the growing number of suspected and confirmed cases, the DOH has instituted enhanced community quarantine in heavily affected areas. The goal of this Webquest is to teach the readers how to develop a viable quarantine method to contain the spread of the pandemic and determine what to do to prevent the spread of the pandemic especially among adults - young, elderly, immunocompromised, with or without co-morbidities.
