Welcome: Failing to Fail: Leveling the Playing Field of Student Evaluation in Nursing
Description: Nurse educators have the responsibility to use clinical expertise in teaching and shaping nursing students into interdependently safe functioning nurses upon graduation. However, there are times when students are nearing graduation and faculty feel the progression of certain students are fraudulent. Faculty recognizes progression as an unsafe novice nurse practicing; however, for whatever reason, students were able to pass, graduate, and sit for the NCLEX. The Clinical Instructors' evaluations are a direct reflection of the student nurse's performance in the clinical setting. With personal experience in this field, I have found that undervaluation of underperforming students can produce unsafe novice nurses. Upon completion of this WebQuest, participants will understand failing to fail is a true phenomenon, the role clinical instructors play in the evaluation process, and biases that may affect the evaluation process.
