Welcome: Code Breaking in World War II
Description: In our classroom, we just completed the book "The Boys who Challenged Hitler." From there, I wanted to incorporate the theme of World War II into other subjects as well. Cryptography was used extensively among different countries to get their messages across without alerting enemies. To create and break these codes, people had to use and recognize different mathematical patterns. In this webquest, students will get a little dose of both math and history; students will explore different instances in WWII in which cryptography and code breaking played a key role, practice deciphering messages, and create their own code.
