Welcome: Black History Month - Lesson Plan and Journal
Description: Students will read various books about significant Black Americans and discuss their contributions. We will determine the qualities in their lives that caused them to endure and succeed during a critical season in American history. Students will record in their journals significant thoughts regarding the American studied and a time in their life when they may have experienced the same circumstance. By observing the success of these Americans, who lived in situations, much like their own, students will come to the realization that circumstances do not have to dictate their future. After students have discussed lesson, they will write a paragraph about the significant American (in their journal) and his/her accomplishments. (Students will be given a daily writing grade for their journal entry.)
