Welcome: Letter Home
Description: This assignment is directed towards high school geometry students who have some prior knowledge in the basics of geometry. In groups of 3, students will create a real world problem that can be solved using Pythagorean Theorem or its Converse. Students must then come up with a fictional situation in which they are unable to solve their own problem. This results in a trip to Greece in search of the great Pythagoras who might have some valuable information to offer. The final task is for students to write a letter back "home" describing their travels, who they meet, and how to solve their problem.
