Welcome: The Consequences of the Second World War: Containment Policies in the 20th and 21st Centuries.
Description: This Webquest will explore the ramifications of the Allied victory in World War II regarding the Korean Peninsula and the question of containment that it inadvertantly created. By exploring the ramifications of the victory and lasting effects with regard to protecting American interests, the students will be able to demonstrate a knowledge of how the split (at the 38th parallel) has reaching consequences on the 21st century. In addition to this, the students will be able to draw parallels between the preservation of US interests in the Korean War (repelling the communist threat) and the US intervention in the Middle East (containing the terrorist threat). By doing the aforementioned, the students will be able to better understand current American interest regarding the escalating situation on the Korean Peninsula, and form their own detailed, informed opinions regarding a solution to the containment question; in addition to providing opinions on alternative solutions and amendments to the current containment policy.
