Dear Teachers:

The character back-story activities included in this WebQuest are intended to assist your students in creating authentic characters that come from an organic place, can thrive in the world of the show, and are relevant to the actors themselves.

You should act as a shepherd and a guide.  Nothing should be dictated to the students - these are choices they should make on their own accord.  The more research they do, the more critical thinking will be required of your students, and therefore, more dramatic choices will become available.  The WebQuest will help your students grow as actors, where they will continue to add to their theatrical arsenal or toolbox.  Most of this work can be aided by the technique of process drama and journaling.

***Please prepare your cast in advance for "The Character Sharing Day."  I suggest you let your actors/ students know this will be an activity everyone should be required to participate in as there may be some aspects of work students will not want to share.  Some choices may want to be kept private for various reasons. This is something you may want to discuss as a cast as a whole if everyone is interested in sharing their work.  The facilitator should also offer the option of not just sharing "the final journal entry," but perhaps some students could present on a specific area of research he or she focused on.  This all depends on the individuals comfort level.

I hope you have a wonderful production full of discovery and life!
