This project can be a few days or several days long - that depends on
how much you want to ask of the students for product. I allow a class
period to introduce the project, get them into groups, and let them
decide who is going to do what.

The students can have the research done inside of a class period of
45 minutes if they are focused. So if you have to reserve lab space or
use the mobile lab, you could get away with using it for two class
periods - one for research, one for pulling the research together for
presentation.

The remainder of the project can be pulled together in a class period if nothing more than the basic elements listed are asked.

If you have a class that is focused, a longer class period, or want
to challenge them further, you could have the class put together a
brochure for the workshop, some advertising posters, and a formal oral
presentation with narrated slides.

To get the students started smoothly, you may want to decide on the
working groups prior to beginning the project. Get the characteristics
assigned, as well. I usually hand these out on a 3x5 card to each group,
with their group member names on it. Some of the teams like to give
themselves a team name, as well. This works out well if you end up giving
the workshop. They can use the team name as the workshop name.
