WebQuest Goals:

The goal of this WebQuest is for the students to be able to locate physical and human features using maps, illustrations, images, games, and internet adventures!  Creating a map of a realistic or make believe place that include human and physical features.

Prior Knowledge needed for WebQuest

During past social studies lessons and activities students should have a basic understanding of what maps are.  They will use this WebQuest to help identify physical and human features on a map and not what a map is.  Students must also know what basic city, state, country and continent meaning and have used them in an activity before.   Students must be able to navigate the web and know how to open and close links.

Plan For Explaining/Introducing the WebQuest to Students

I will use this WebQuest as a major project that will introduce an upcoming geography unit.  I will show several pictures of maps to the students and point out some of the features that are on the maps.  I will point out things like rivers, the equator, mountain ranges and more.  As I point these things out I will ask questions about the meaning of these images.  I will then tell the students that we will be starting a project that uses the internet.  We will be using the internet to learn more about maps and what they mean.  I will tell the students that they will be working with a partner (their reading partner) and they will be working as a team to create a map once they have gone through the WebQuest.
